Biography

Stephen Christopher is a Marie-Curie postdoc at the University of Copenhagen (2022-24). In 2019, he was a JSPS Postdoctoral Fellow at Kyoto University. He has taught at Beijing Normal University, Vietnam National University in Hanoi, Pitt in the Himalayas in Mussoorie, the University of Bremen in Germany, Semester at Sea, Tokyo Metropolitan University and at Syracuse University, where he received a PhD in anthropology in 2018. He works on New Religious Movements, tribal politics, Tibetan Buddhism, spiritual therapies, global spirituality trends, and Christianization. His ethnographic work is primarily in India and Japan.
